چکیده

This introductory article treats aspects of the evolution early semiconductor detectors towards modern radiation imaging instruments, now with millions signal processing cells, exploiting potential silicon nano-technology. The Medipix and Timepix assemblies are among prime movers in this evolution. Imaging impacts detecting matrix from individual ionizing particles photons can be used to study these elementary quanta themselves, or allows one visualize various characteristics objects under irradiation. X-ray is probably most-used modality latter, new imagers process each single incident X–photon obtain an image additional information about structure composition object. atomic distribution imaged, taking advantage energy-specific absorption. A myriad other applications appearing, as reported special issue journal. As example, molecular spectroscopy, sub-nanosecond timing pixel deliver real-time mapping a specimen by time-of-flight for molecules, revolution compared classical gel electrophoresis. References some personal impressions provided illuminate detection over more than 50 years. Extrapolations wild guesses future developments conclude article.

3D computational imaging with single-pixel detectors.

Computational imaging enables retrieval of the spatial information of an object with the use of single-pixel detectors. By projecting a series of known random patterns and measuring the backscattered intensity, it is possible to reconstruct a two-dimensional (2D) image. We used several single-pixel detectors in different locations to capture the 3D form of an object. From each detector we deriv...

Fast full-color computational imaging with single-pixel detectors.

Single-pixel detectors can be used as imaging devices by making use of structured illumination. These systems work by correlating a changing incident light field with signals measured on a photodiode to derive an image of an object. In this work we demonstrate a system that utilizes a digital light projector to illuminate a scene with approximately 1300 different light patterns every second and...

Toward real-time quantum imaging with a single pixel camera.

We present a workbench for the study of real-time quantum imaging by measuring the frame-by-frame quantum noise reduction of multi-spatial-mode twin beams generated by four wave mixing in Rb vapor. Exploiting the multiple spatial modes of this squeezed light source, we utilize spatial light modulators to selectively pass macropixels of quantum correlated modes from each of the twin beams to a h...

Fast tracking of hidden objects with single-pixel detectors

ELECT A fast tracking system is demonstrated that is based on single laser illumination and a few single-pixel single photon avalanche diode (SPAD) detectors that improves on the previous tracking of non-line-of-sight motion by a factor of 300 in laser power. With an average illumination power of only 2 mW, a 15 cm ×15 cm object located up to 2.5 m away is tracked whilst outside of the direct l...
